Traditional Art

Soft Pastel, Crayon, Insulation Foam, Plaster, and Ink Pen

Fall 2019 Semester Project

Carved Crayon

3.6 inches Crayon and X-acto Knife

The goal of this project is to use the subtractive method of sculpture to carve non-objective crayons without breaking them. Crayons are unique and challenging and still retain the overall idea of being a crayon. Craftsmanship is a big part of this project. The crayons needed to have half positive and half negative space. I held the crayons with a light touch and used an x-acto knife to curve as many details as possible. I worked in-the-round, not just on one section.

Biomorphic Form

Insulation Foam

The goal of this project is to use the subtractive method of sculpture to carve a non-objective biomorphic form by using insulation foam. This biomorphic form needed to use a good balance of positive and negative space. It need to be a successful form from all viewing angles. When I turn it around, It will look complete different piece. I used the rubber cement to glue pieces of foam together, then using the sand paper to smooth it. I finished by using the gesso coats.

Plaster Shoe Carving

Plaster

The goal of this project is to use the subtractive method of sculpture to carve a realistic copy of a shoe from a block of plaster. This project is about the measurement, sight, details and work in the round. It is about how the viewer reacts to certain textures, both visual and tactile.

Ink Drawing

24×18 Inches, Ink Pen

These two projects focus on the elements of art with ink pen. I used the doodle drawing style on the last project. I used the principles of design to organize the elements of art to hold interest and command attention.
